Mario Tabone — Social Intelligence and Behavioural Coach Turn Your Awkwardness Into Influence

You Mastered the Technical Side. Now Master the People Side.

You're intelligent, capable and good at what you do. But at some point, career and business success depends on more than technical expertise.

Being able to connect with people, build rapport, communicate your ideas and influence decisions is a different skill set — and it can be learned.

You don't need to become louder. And you don't need to become an extrovert.

Who I Help

For analytical professionals who want their expertise to have more impact

I work with intelligent, analytical professionals, often in IT, technology, engineering, finance and science. You're good at what you do, and your technical ability has taken you a long way.

But the further you go, the more progress depends on things that aren't technical: building relationships, communicating ideas clearly, working with senior people and influencing decisions. If those parts feel harder than the work itself, that's where I can help.

Does this sound familiar?

Thoughts you might recognise from work

"I know what I want to say, but it doesn't come out the way I mean it."
"I put real thought into my ideas, but they don't seem to land in the room."
"I can talk to my team. Talking to senior people is harder."
"I'd rather do the work than network, but I can see that networking matters."
"I'm good at what I do, but I'm not sure the right people know it."
"I overthink conversations long after they've ended."

If several of these sound familiar, it doesn't mean you're bad with people. It usually means you've spent years developing your technical expertise, while the people side of your career was something you were simply expected to figure out for yourself.

A different approach

Your quiet strengths are an advantage once people can see them

Thoughtfulness, careful observation, good listening and analytical thinking are valuable in relationships and influence too. They're often the foundations of real rapport.

What's usually missing isn't personality. It's a set of practical skills for showing those strengths: how to start and steer a conversation, how to explain your thinking so others follow it, and how to read the people in the room.

The aim isn't to make you louder. It's to help the person you already are come across more clearly and with more confidence.

About Mario

Hi, I'm Mario

Social Intelligence & Influence Coach

In 1992, at my own wedding, I stood up to give the thank-you speech and nearly fainted. I was 22, with a 5-year-old stepson and a 2-year-old daughter, and my wife was three months pregnant with our son. I was so overwhelmed that my best man had to step in and finish the speech for me.

Later that evening, an older friend took me aside and challenged me to become a more confident communicator, not just for myself, but for my family. When I got back from my honeymoon, I called him and started working on it seriously.

That was the beginning of something I've never really stopped. I've been studying communication, human behaviour, confidence and influence ever since. I've invested more than $150,000 in my own development along the way, including training in behavioural science, body language, public speaking, sales and coaching.

From about 2007 to 2021, I worked with Success and You and EQ Group, coaching hundreds of people in confidence, communication, public speaking, sales and influence. I've continued coaching since then, and today I specialise as a Social Intelligence & Influence Coach.

That experience matters to me because confidence and communication didn't come naturally to me either. I had to invest decades and thousands of dollars to learn, practise and master these skills before I was ready to teach them to others.

That's why my coaching is practical and tailored to the person in front of me. You don't need to become an extrovert, and you don't need to pretend to be someone you're not. You already have the intelligence. My job is to help you make more of it visible to the people around you.
